Preparing for Fall: Home Heating

AAA Professional performing a furnace checkSt Louis weather has switched from the blazing heat of summer to the cool evenings of autumn. It’s time to prepare your home furnace for the cold weather ahead.

An annual preventative maintenance check gets your furnace working at peak efficiency to save you time, money and a lot of frustration.  Our unique 12 Point Clean and Check looks for and removes problems from thermal stress, movement, or dust. Eliminating these common problems keeps your home’s air system running cleaner, safer, and more efficiently.

Get Ready with these Simple Steps

  • Replace Air Filters: Regularly changing your air filter is one of the easiest and the most important things you can do to keep your HVAC system running in top shape. On average, air filters should be changed every 90 days in a pet-free household, every 60 days in a one pet household, and once a month in a household with two or more pets. Households that experience severe allergies should change out air filters every month.
  • Clean Your Gutters: The sudden influx of leaves and debris during autumn can easily clog up your gutters and drain pipes. Clogging prevents your drainage systems from working properly, causing potential water damage to your home. In turn, water damage compromises your home’s ability to keep warm air inside and cold air outside the home.
  • Reverse Ceiling Fans: Reverse the air flow direction of your ceiling fans each fall and spring for optimal temperature flow. Heat rises, and if your furnace is running, then you want to keep that warm air down on the ground with you. Your ceiling fans should rotate clockwise during the colder months, drawing cold air from the ground up towards the ceiling and pushing the warm air from the ceiling back down the walls and into the room. The direction of your ceiling fan’s rotation is controlled by a switch located on the motor. Don’t forget to turn your fan completely off before flipping the switch!
